Remarks and Suggestions

They reside in the very best class of work boots. “Assembled with pride in Portland, Oregon, using the finest materials from around the world.” describes it all.

Better for:

Mt Vernon boots meet all requirements for construction site, oil rig, refinery, heavy industry and the list goes on. These are high-performance boots ready to cope up with medium to heavy duty. Use them from sea shores to mountains through forests up to city streets and hazardous work spaces.

User, Expert and Trade Recognition

Points 5/5

“Top Notch. Great Boots Made In A Great Country. My fifth pair of Keens. Still the most comfortable work boots I have ever worn.”

“I have owned many kinds of boots over the years and these are my favorite for working. It’s worth paying a little more money to get such a quality boot that will last.”

Ask a hard working self-made man. Which shoe or boot does he crave for? Maybe three names coming up and one of them is Keen’s famous UTILITY boots- maybe that’s Mt Vernon.

“I walk on concrete at work for 40+ hours a week, I weigh about 250 lbs. I am by no means easy on my boots and I often use them as pallet jacks to rotate and lift pallets at work and Keens have always held up to the stress.”

We have a gigantic post on best work boots which may help you find more dependable foot gear.

Price vs Durability

Points 5/5

These are not as pricey as Danners or Red Wings are. Yet they are made in the United States. Yes you will get other famous brands like CAT at a fraction of its price, but here comes the saying: You get what you pay for.

Think about the deal- you pay around 70-100 USD and you’ve got a near-crappy pair of boots to somewhat suffer from the very first day and you end up using them for roughly 6-8 months. Pay somewhat double and enjoy supreme all-around comfort and support from day one until a year or two ends. Which is better?

Let’s wrap things up:

“You would be hard pressed to find a better work boot for the money. Nice boot for a great price.”

If you can be gentle on them while using and cleaning, you can easily expect 2 years of use. Many use them for more than two years.

Comfort

Points 5/5

If keen can’t provide it, nobody probably can. Comfort is no single feature. It’s the summation or rather, the end result of all the qualities and cautions poured within a pair of boots.  Comfort is holistic as you know. These are top notch comfy boots. Go through the upcoming comfort explanations.

Water, Chemical and Spill Proof

Points 5/5

As we said in the beginning, our editors are fascinated by the KEEN.DRY technology. Dry-Lex Lining: This feature contains dual zone hydrophobic and hydrophilic comfort technology.

Slip Resistance

Points 5/5

Oil and slip resistant. They meet or even exceed ASTM F1677-96 Mark II non-slip testing standards.

Toe Box and Safety

Points 5/5

Bigger and better toe box with superior abrasion resistance. Mt Vernon has a number of boots:Three of them feature steel toe. One soft toe in case you do not need safety toe at all. One with a metatarsal guard ready to rock and roll on the roughest work spaces.

Break-in Time and Fitting

Points 5/5

Keen magic: almost no break-in time required.

“Break period of these boots was over about 15 seconds after I laced them up.” which means these are ready to wear out of the box.

And they fit pretty well.

Electrical Hazard

Points 5/5

They meet the ASTM standards for electrical hazard safety features. You will get F2412-11, F2413-11 and M I/75 C/75 EH standards. They are not ESD. You will not usually find EH boots featuring ESD.

Stylish and Presentable

Points 4/5

Most of the work boots do not look fancy. These are not for casual wear but you will look very sharp and reliable while working.

Breathable and Insulation

Points 4/5

A hard working day may always release a lot of sweat. At the end of the shift, you do not want to get bad odor coming out of your feet. The obvious query is, can you get a very good waterproof boot which is breathable enough?

Maybe, no- if it’s not Keen or something like Gore-Tex.

KEEN.DRY ensures that the membrane remains breathable. This uncommon membrane locks out rain, splash, spill and humid condition while releasing the heat and evaporated water from inside the boot.

They are not insulated.

Leather, Upper, Lace and Heel

Points 5/5

The Polyurethane heel cushion: The integrated PU heel cushion provides natural and comfortable support. You will not get a pinch point on the heel cup.The upper is made of WP nubuck leather while the heel counter is made of thermoplastic TPU. You are also going to get extra reinforced padding on sensitive and abrasive parts of the upper portion. Laces are of better quality.

Tongue, Collar and Weight

Points 5/5

The weight varies from 680 g (soft toe) to 833 g (safety toe) in six inch boots. It is awesome. We find most of the work boots weighing well around 1KG. Best class collar padding. Tongue is wide and fluffy.

Insole, Midsole, Shank and Arch Support

Points 5/5

Metatomical footbed: Removable dual-density EVA footbed for overall foot support provides super comfort.

Shock-absorbing midsole. They are most probably not compatible with purchased orthotic inserts. You probably would not need those.

Direct Attach PU Midsole for Long-Lasting Comfort. TPU stability shank.

“Metatomical footbed design is an internal support mechanism that’s anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support while cradling the natural contours of the foot. The sole and insole have a thick, rigidly flexible feel – it is unique.”

Outsole, Construction and Sewing

Points 5/5

KEEN.GRIP is a feature present in most of the Mt Vernon boots. These ensure excellent traction. Non-marking rubber outsole will help in many ways. Stitching is awesome, a cobbler’s dream. Cement construction provides enough flexibility specially needed for construction, electrician and ladder related jobs.

Anti-odor and Cleanable

Points 5/5

Cleansport NXT™ controls smell so that your feet do not stink after a long work day.

This is what they say about cleaning:“Gently brush the shoe with a soft bristle brush or hand towel to remove loose dirt and debris. Stains can be treated by lightly rubbing a gum eraser in a circular motion over the location and lightly brushing afterwards. Tough stains can be treated with a mixture of water and a little vinegar on a damp cloth. This process may cause slight discoloration to the area.”

Warranty, Return and Post Purchase Service Policy

Points 5/5

One year warranty for both manufacturing and material defects. Keen gets you covered.

Brand Faith

Points 5/5

Highly suggested brand if not the most praised.

“Can’t Beat Keen Footwear (PS – Mom likes Keen footwear for the ladies too!).”

Special and Uncommon Features

Points 5/5

These are packed with special features as we discussed above.

Keen.DRY system is one of a kind. It successfully does the waterproofing as others do, but it enables breathability which is unexpected.

Their Metatomical footbed design is another milestone where they focus on an often ignored necessity- the proper arch support.

Mt. Vernon footbeds anatomically cope up with your feet.

The KEEN.GRIP feature is there to ensure supreme traction in slippery and sloppy instances.

When it comes to safety toe, Mt Vernon comes with uneven toe caps- which is natural to the forefoot shape. Like to choose and take care like a pro? Here’s the post.

Cons

Points 4/5

4 out of 5 points. The thing is, you can’t replace insole in most of the cases.

Editor’s Boost

Points 5/5

No reason to give below 5 marks.

Here’s an interesting comparison:

Remember what they say? Do not ever try to spend less on these three things: The bed where you rest for long hours every day.

The wheels keep you safe while driving. The shoes and boots you use every day for long hours.

If you invest on Keen, they are enough to ensure foot safety at work… for good.
